My Favorite Scene in House of the Dragon Episode 2

Spoilers ahead for House of the Dragon Episode 2 “The Rogue Prince”

I realize I need to watch this as soon as I can in the week so I don’t catch any spoilers. I didn’t watch this one until Thursday night and I had already caught wind of a few things. The whole episode I was just waiting for the biggest plot development to happen! My favorite part of this episode was still a surprise for me, so I’m not too upset.

The first half of the episode I was a bit checked out because there wasn’t a lot of action nor dragons, but then things kicked into gear with news from Dragonstone: Daemon Targaryen, the Rogue Prince, announces that he’s getting married and his wife to be is pregnant. The real cherry on top is that he took a dragon egg to grow up with the baby; the very egg Rhaenyra had picked to be her brother’s!

Otto Hightower takes some lads out to Dragonstone to sort things out, Daemon’s dragon (Caraxes) appears tipping things drastically in his favor, then out of the mist flies Rhaenyra on her dragon, Syrax!

She diffuses the situation by calling Daemon’s bluff (his “bride” had no idea about any wedding, and doesn’t even want kids!) and gets the egg back. I enjoyed how flippantly Daemon handed the egg, he just tosses it over to her like a lopsided football. This is my favorite scene of the series so far, it was a great mix of tension, humor, and dragons.

At the end of the episode we see King Viserys announce that he will indeed marry a new wife, but not the daughter of Lord Corlys, he intends to marry Alicent Hightower!

This leads to Corlys seeking some kind of partnership with Daemon, surely this can only lead to violence!

I’m excited to see what happens next, but also I’m a little bit sad that we will see some of the actors replaced with their older counterparts soon. Milly Alcock as Rhaenyra has really grown on me in this episode!
